I am a nurse and an artist. A large part of my career as a nurse has been spent caring for people touched by homelessness.Many of the portraits I have painted are of the special people I have helped take care of as a nurse.I see a hero in each of them. The people I’ve painted are kind, brave, generous and spread joy no matter the hard times they’ve endured. Each person has inspired me. Instead of selling their portraits for money, I “sell” them in exchange for gifts that will help others - a donation of food to a neighborhood food bank, a collection of new socks for a community service center or even homemade sandwiches for a shelter. ~Mary
